Simple Anki ("we", "our", or "the app") is a flashcard application that uses spaced repetition to help you learn efficiently. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address (or a private relay address) and display name. If you use the app without signing in, we create an anonymous user identifier through Firebase Authentication.

User-Generated Content

Your flashcards, decks, folders, images, and audio recordings are stored locally on your device. If you subscribe to Simple Anki Pro, your content is synced to our cloud servers (Google Firebase) to enable cross-device access.

Usage Data

We collect anonymous usage data to improve the app experience, including:

• Screen views and feature interactions (via Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel)
• Study statistics such as cards reviewed, review ratings, and session duration
• App version, device type, and operating system version

Crash Data

We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic data. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports may include device state, stack traces, and the anonymous user identifier.

Advertising Data

The free version of Simple Anki displays ads through Google AdMob. We do not use the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) or App Tracking Transparency. AdMob uses Apple's SKAdNetwork for attribution. Google may collect device and contextual data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Push Notification Tokens

If you enable notifications, we store your device's push notification token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) to send study reminders.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide the service: Store your flashcards, sync data across devices, and schedule spaced repetition reviews.
• Improve the app: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and fix issues.
• Personalization: Adapt the spaced repetition algorithm (FSRS) to your learning patterns.
• Communication: Send study reminders via push notifications (with your permission).
• Advertising: Display contextual ads to free-tier users.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect and process your data:

• Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging) — Firebase Privacy

4. Data Storage and Transfer

Your flashcard data is stored locally on your device using a local database. For Pro subscribers, data is additionally stored on Google Firebase servers, which are located in the United States. By using cloud sync, you consent to the transfer of your data to servers in the US.

5. Data Retention

• Active accounts: Your data is retained as long as your account exists and you use the service.
• Deleted content: When you delete cards, decks, or folders, cloud copies are soft-deleted and permanently removed after 10 days.
• Account deletion: You can delete your account from the app's profile settings. Upon deletion, all associated cloud data is permanently removed.

6. Children's Privacy

Simple Anki is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email below and we will promptly delete such information.

7. Your Rights (GDPR — European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Data portability: Export your flashcards via APKG, CSV, or ZIP formats built into the app.
• Restrict or object to processing of your data.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
• Request deletion of your personal information.
